Chocolate Chip Strawberry Shortcake with Bourbon Chocolate Sauce



Ingredients:

Filling Ingredients
2 pounds fresh strawberries, washed, hulled and sliced
3 tablespoons sugar
1 batch Bourbon Chocolate Sauce (can be made ahead)

Shortcake Ingredients
2 cups all purpose flour
3 tablespoons + 2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) chilled unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
3 ounces (about 2/3 cup) bittersweet or semisweet chocolate chips
2/3 cup + 2 tablespoons buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Whipped Cream Ingredients
1 1/2 cups whipping cream
4 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
